Renée Cozzolino completed her bachelor's in Elementary Education and her Master's in Counseling at Eastern Illinois University. Renee's practicum experience was at the READY Program in Champaign, and she interned at Urbana Middle School.
Before becoming a counselor, Renée enjoyed a teaching career in Urbana, Champaign, and Rantoul and is working towards becoming a certified play therapist.
She is passionate about helping children and adolescents heal trauma through play therapy modalities and creative expression.
Renée wants to tell every patient that practicing mindfulness and gratitude daily can significantly impact our health. "It's important to slow down and connect our mind with our body and spirit regularly; I cannot wait to meet YOU and help you on your journey."
When Renée is away from work, she finds fun events to attend with her family, especially local theater. She also likes listening to music and comedy, spending time with her friends, and meeting dogs.
A fun fact about Renée is that she was raised in a pizza place in Chicago, had to work (without pay) for most of her teenage years, and can make great homemade pizza from scratch.
Renée is a fierce advocate of human rights, especially those who may be marginalized in our society. She believes all humans should be housed, fed, educated, and included in their communities. Renée supports groups sharing visions of making this world more inclusive and just for all people: Black, brown, LGBTQIA+, refugees, individuals who have a disability, are unhoused, or speak another language.
“I am eager to help individuals feel heard and understood as they learn about themselves in the world around them. People have the power to heal themselves when there is a safe space provided and someone to build trust with. I hope to be that person and provide that space for my clients at Promise Healthcare.”
